The Principal Deputy Director of the Office of Foreign Missions is responsible for monitoring issues of reciprocal and national security/interest with respect to the operation of foreign missions in the United States and for providing policy guidance and direction to other elements of the Department and other Federal agencies. The work directly implements provisions and procedures of the Foreign Missions Act, with due consideration of reciprocity needs and national security objectives, as they may apply to the operations of foreign missions and a number of commercial entities subject to the regulation by the Act. Assignments involve a broad range of projects requiring the analysis and interpretation of the Foreign Missions Act, treaties and bilateral agreements applicable to the operations of foreign diplomatic and consular posts in the United States.
